Phenol

A kind of colorless crystals with special odor, become pink in air and lightSlightly soluble in water at room temperature.At 65 ℃ it has miscibility with water; hardly soluble in petroleum ether.But has miscibility with ethanol, ether, chloroform and glycerin and alkali aqueous solution. Phenol is corrosive, can use alcohol to washing when left on their skin.

Health hazard:
         It has strong corrosion effect to skin, eyes and mucous membrane; can restrain central nerve or damage liver and kidney function.

　  　Acute poisoning: inhaling high concentrations of vapor can cause headaches, fatigue, blurred vision, pulmonary edema, etc.

　  　Mistaking will cause digestive tract burn, the possibility of gastrointestinal perforation and acute renal failure.

　  　Chronic poisoning: can cause headache, cough, nausea, vomiting, severe cases can cause dermatitis.

　  　Environmental hazards: water and air pollution.

　　Emergency treatment:

　  　Skin contact: remove contaminated clothing and immediately clean with glycerin, polyethylene glycol, and alcohol mixture (7:3), and then use plenty of liquid water to wash at least 15 minutes. Get medical attention.

　  　Eye contact: immediately lift eyelid; use plenty of water or saline to thoroughly flush at least 15 minutes, seek medical treatment.

　  　Inhalation: leave the site quickly to a place with fresh air. If necessary, give oxygen therapy or artificial respiration and then go hospital.

　  　Ingestion: immediately give 15 ~ 30 ml water the vegetable oil. Vomit and see a doctor.

　  　Leakage processing: processing: isolate leakage pollution area, restricted access. Cut off fire.

  　　Small leakage: cover with dry lime and soda ash.

　  　Abundant leakage: recycling or shipped to the wastes disposal site.
